A wonderful piece written by Jordan Rakei, as he wrote in a Reddit thread, he has rewritten it almost seven times, taking him the longest to consider it finished.

What makes this masterpiece special is the cinematic vibe it creates from the very beginning.

It starts with a loop of four chords – F, C/G, Bbmaj7(no3), and F – essentially a I–V–IV–I progression in F major.

What makes this simple chord progression sound so tasty? Well, it’s the sparse voicing and ambiguity achieved by omitting the third from the IV chord and avoiding a b7 in the V chord.

Also, the use of C/G employs a perfect fourth harmonic interval; imho this “harmony of fourths” always adds to the ambiguity.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that in the verse section there are four chords, while in the chorus, the fourth chord is omitted, so it’s essentially a three-chord loop that adds dynamic to the song.

In the bridge section, a new theme is developed using chords with sparse voicing. F - G - Am - C - Dm - Am - Bb And again, in the next section starting from “Secrets and Faults,” to enhance energy and dynamics, one chord is omitted (this time, A minor is omitted), and the chord progression takes an odd number of bars (seven instead of eight).
